What is Bondek and how does it work?
Bondek is steel decking, which provides a composite slab framework for large slabs in roofs and floors. The steel decking combines with the concrete to produce a single unit that resists heavy loads. Once all support beams, walls and other structural components are aligned, the Bondek sheets are laid perpendicular with overlaps to maintain composite action.
After it has been reinforced with mesh or other materials, concrete is poured evenly onto the Bondek before being levelled and left to cure. This ease of use and versatility make Bondek a highly regarded formwork product in the building and construction industry.
What are the standard Bondek sheet sizes available?
Bondek has a 600mm cover width, and we stock it in 0.60mm, 0.75mm and 1.00mm thicknesses. We can also cut Bondek to custom lengths where required.
Do I need additional reinforcement with Bondek?
Yes. Bondek serves as the framework for the concrete and the bottom reinforcement, but reinforcing mesh is still needed for supplementary strength and crack control. Negative movement steel is also required over supports to resist top tension.
